Essence Music Festival
Monday, July 5, 2010

After months of website development and online promotions, our hard work on the EMF2010 campaign has finally paid off. In March, we introduced the artist promo list with the announcement of Janet Jackson in her first and only U.S. performance. That list quickly grew to include Mary J. Blidge, Alicia Keys, LL Cool J and top performers and panelists from across the globe.

Since the campaign began, users have populated the EMF website, blog, Flickr, and FaceBook page with personal stories from previous years, plans for 2010 and shared their mutual festival anticipation. This weekend, the hype was over as New Orleans hosted the much anticipated 16th annual Essence Music Festival. The online community was ablaze with fans tweeting their celebrity sightings, blogging about performance favorites and sharing stories of food, fun and family.

The Festival, website, and campaign were a huge success. We thank the EMF online community, Essence staff and the entire EMF team for all their support. A special thanks to Evelyn Tavarez and Danny Shaw for going the extra mile.

Essence Music Festival is an annual music festival celebrating contemporary African American music and culture. It is the largest event celebrating African American culture and music in the United States. It has been held in New Orleans, Louisiana every year since 1995 except for 2006, where it was held in Houston, Texas due to Hurricane Katrina. Essence Music Festival, known locally as Essence Fest, is sponsored by Essence, a magazine aimed primarily towards African-American women.
